Truth be told, as this post is being penned, I am no where near the farm or even home for that matter. Actually, I am still in Asia, in a cafe with headphones on to drown out the chatter in a language I am so far from mastering, crossing off the days in my planner til I am back in the USA with my amazing and adoring Maestro. By the way, he was just here for a visit, but that's a separate post. These days as I hyper-multitask life and work, I've noticed how simple pleasures like streaming Scandal and listening to music brings me great almost divine pleasure.
I find myself singing these tunes, sometimes acappella, but almost always loudly either in open rooms, in my budded ears and in my general head space. It's like my happy song list. Yes, I need a list, not just a song, but a series of tunes. Why? Did I tell you about the mammoth move I'm preparing for (major shipping of apartment contents along with toddler and cat), the US taxes that remain on my to-do list (actually I write sticky notes with "Do your taxes" and post them everywhere - my subconscious has yet to catch on to the messaging), or the slim down mission I've started (in lieu of doing my taxes) to fit into my awesome boho chic wedding dress this summer (fingers crossed, Dear God please lift this burden and the extra pounds off my otherwise slender shape - that's right, I'm speaking with words of affirmation;). I have a full plate - ironically no pun intended.
While you may have been expecting sounds of birds chirping or cows mooing, the vibe is certainly homey if not homestead, sweet, pure, and doubles as a quick lullaby for my little girl. This playlist soothes and inspires. I'm reminded, not so much by the specific music, but by the act of listening, of study breaks in high school, hanging out with friends into the wee hours of the night talking about hairstyles and John Taylor of Duran Duran, listening repeatedly to "our song" and stepping back into time and place when first canoodles and kisses happened. It somehow recalibrates my subtle frenzy in similar ways that chocolate, a generous pour of Shiraz, sexy time do. I play it at work, during my commute home, while I cook, stare at my closet and wonder how I'm going to transition my wardrobe to my new home, life and smaller closet; and of course while I blog. Plug in, kick your shoes or boots back and sing along.
