Depending on where you live, snow didn't come during the holiday season. However in many cities, this weekend is round 1 of a series of snow storms to come this January. What to do after you've shoveled your front stoop, spent an hour with your kids trying to hustle up enough clean snow to big a snowperson, and kicked the snow off your wellies? Crank up the volume and shake your booty. You've vowed to get your body moving (you even bought that cute little heart-rate watch because you fell for the commercials too) so turn on some Taylor Swift or 50Cent and dance. Shake it!
Bears do it, and so should we - sleep! Most of the year, I can max out almost every hour of the day, functioning pretty well on a few espresso hits and 4 hours of sleep. In the winter, no way! I not only like to sleep, but I find it mucho importante to my well-being; and those around me. Cranky is not the word that best describes the mood that takes hold of my otherwise warm and charming disposition. Sleep as we know influences our hormones, which in turn dictate our food cravings, how our major organs function, etc etc... We need it, so go and take a nap. Now.
For the kids - hot chocolate made with coconut milk and real cocoa (no Swiss Miss packets, please) , mock hot toddy (hot tea with cinnamon and lemon), hot lemonade (add ginger and honey for a zing), or hot apple cider. For grown-ups - ginger tea (grated ginger boiled, honey and black tea), mulled wine, bloody hot toddy (brandy, orange bitters, port and a sprig of rosemary) ...whatever the concoction as long as it's hot.
