It’s that time of year again when all you can think about on Monday morning is Friday afternoon’s after work Uber that will shuttle you away to your weekend getaway. One woman’s city adventure is another woman’s weekend spa retreat, but most will want to spend at least sometime at the beach. Before you jam your rolly suitcase and 2 carry-on bags with six pairs of shoes, a vault-full of baubles, a sequined mini or a ridiculous caftan, check out what my sister-friend, Ginny suggest as essentials for your petite sojourn.
Ginny always looks on trend, polished and original. I’ve known her forever and while I never considered her a green girl per se, at least since motherhood and a move to Rhode Island, most of her Instagram pixs have been of the sea, her garden or a freshly made smoothie. She’s my poster girl for the city-chic and country-slow movement. During the week she’s suited in a bevy of tailored looks that communicates her smarts as well as her creativity – she’s a branding executive. On the weekends, which are usually spent at the beach, she sports a look that may be easy-breezy, but is equally chic.
It used to be that, “going to the beach” for the weekend actually meant going to the beach, sitting out in the sun, playing beach volleyball, splashing in the sea. Ginny, a savvy, whip-smart, Cameron Diaz-look alike agrees that the beach lifestyle has shifted. “A beach vacation these days often entails 10% beach time and 90% beach soiree.” If you are looking to cross over to the other low maintenance side, you can still have the party and play - the vibe is more chill, even when incredibly elegant and the focus is on connecting, not cliquing up. Therefore, she insists the packing rules have changed. This is what is in her bag for a long weekend at the beach.
a white fitted tank top
converse sneakers (Good for strolling beach markets, running with the dog along the beach, casual lunches at an outdoor cafe)
Thai Priest cotton cross-body bag ( Its comfortable, light, and everyone has a tote so this bag adds a touch of mystery)
